Letter to the March Against Anti-Women Legislation in Iran of the 8th March 2007

My name is Maria Hagberg and I am a feminist since thirty years. I am now a member of the Feminist Initiative in Sweden. It is a new party working for the Human Rights to women all over the world.

I have been brought up in a family with domestic violence and I can see the differense between the partner violence and the violence that the whole society allow and support. I know well what it means to the women and the men that are punished, I work with these young people everyday. I know how it works when the nations that have the religion as the legislation and what it does to Women´s rights. Both kinds of violence are discusting but it is much harder to get your right as a women in a hard patriarchal society as in, for example, Iran and Afghanistan.

I will therefore, of all my heart, support your resistence against the violence and in your struggle against the unhuman laws. It concerns every country that makes it possible to avoid Women´s rights in the name og religion or tradition.
